Board of Directors Class

Are you ready to lead?

If you wanted to become a leader in your community and join the MMHI Board of Directors, what steps should you take? Our Educational Class is not a requirement to serve – but it will prepare you for when the time comes.

The MHHI Board class exists to develop prospective Board members with a high understanding of their individual fiduciary duties and the fundamental role of the BOD that contributes to steering MHHI towards a sustainable future through sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies.

About the Program

The MRHI Board of Directors (BOD) discussed the concept of an educational program to prepare potential board members for service and asked the Nominating Committee to consider the idea in greater detail. The Nominating Committee held conference calls, and a consensus emerged on the following points:

  1. An educational program (EP) for potential new members would be beneficial to the new board member in a variety of ways.
  2. An EP would put new board members in the position of contributing earlier in their board service and in a more informed manner.
  3. New board members can spend up to two years learning health care acronyms, board processes and other aspects of MRHI governance before they feel adequately informed to participate in a meaningful way.
  4. The board and the hospital will benefit from the election of new board members who are policy, process and governance-ready to serve.
  5. The board should identify the type of expertise desired in a new board member in advance of the recruitment and educational process.
  6. An EP should be transparent to the public and specify program purpose, educational goals, that the number of participants will be limited, does not guarantee election to the board, and how to apply.

The following curriculum emphasizes the major responsibilities of the MRHI BOD, its individual members and board operations and processes
