As our community grows, so does your local hospital. One of the exciting areas of our growth includes our Spine & Pain Center – a team of experts who can help problem-solve your pain. Helmed by Spine Surgeon Dr. Addison Wood and Pain Management Specialist Dr. Samuel Holmes, our Spine & Pain Center allows us to spend time with each patient and help them find a path forward towards better health.

Experiencing pain can completely derail your quality of life, and that is especially true for back pain. Enter Dr. Addison Wood. A Spine Surgeon, Dr. Wood and his family were looking for a smaller community with an excellent hospital – and also an opportunity to do what he loves most. “Treating all spinal conditions from the upper neck to the pelvis is my forte and I love the end result when I can provide an immediate impact on my patients’ lives,” said Dr. Wood. His goal is to improve and elevate the lifestyle of every patient he sees.

Drs. Wood and Holmes ensure patients receive the right treatment that is best for each particular patient’s situation. “We both share the vision of treating a patient as a whole,” says Dr. Wood. “We ask each other questions about patients. He may ask me, ‘Should I get a patient to your earlier? I think he might really have a problem here.’ Or I might ask him, ‘Hey, is there a way we can avoid surgery that I’m not thinking about here?’” The doctors work together very closely on every patient to ensure the patient receives the best care possible.

As a Pain Management specialist double-Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine, Dr. Samuel Holmes is well-versed in the many avenues available to patients before surgery is considered. Dr. Holmes treats a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles and tendons. He evaluates and treats injuries, illnesses and disabilities and is an expert at designing comprehensive, individualized care plans.

One thing that makes the MRH Spine & Pain Center special is the time spent with each patient. Dr. Holmes listens closely to the needs and concerns of his patients with the goal of helping patients optimize movement and activity to enjoy their lives more. Both Dr. Wood and Dr. Holmes spend at least one hour in the room with each patient to ensure they fully understand their situation and their treatment options. When you hear people talk about being treated like a number in larger health systems, it’s good to know your Spine & Pain team at Montrose Regional Health are doing the opposite and truly “Caring for you like family.”
