Meet Our Board of Directors

The Board of Directors (the “Board”) has overall responsibility for the Hospital’s operation and patient care. The Board consists of nine members and all Board members serve for four-year terms.

Sarah Abbott

Sarah Abbott was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2019. She is an attorney with over 10 years of experience in transactional, commercial, corporate, real estate and regulatory law. Sarah graduated with a degree in English Literature from Wake Forest University and earned her juris doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Prior to moving to Montrose in 2013 with her husband, Wes, Sarah worked as in-house counsel for a private equity subsidiary of the Carlyle Group, CoreSite, in Denver. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, yoga, cooking and spending time with her husband and dogs.

Dr. Michael Brezinsky

Dr. Michael Brezinsky is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician originally from Chicago, Illinois who was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2015.  He attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and went on to attend medical school at Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine in Chicago, IL. He completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics, where he also served as a Chief Resident from 1996-1997. He and his wife, Christine, have 5 children and have lived in Montrose since 1997. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, doing medical mission work in impoverished countries throughout the world and fly fishing.

Dr. Kjersten Davis

Dr. Kjersten Davis is an equine veterinarian originally from San Francisco, California who was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2014. With an undergraduate degree from Cal Poly she obtained her veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis.  After working in Pennsylvania and California, she settled in Montrose.  She and her husband, Kevin, have two grown sons.  Kjersten is interested in community service and serves, or has served, on different boards, including the Montrose and Olathe School Board, Center for Mental Health and the Montrose Community Foundation. In her free time, she rides horses and loves to run our local trails.

Reid Fishering

Reid Fishering

Reid Fishering owns Mountain Quality Farms, a small business that specializes in local farming, harvesting, and logistics of Olathe sweet corn, asparagus and onions in the Uncopmpahgre valley. He grew up in Montrose before attending college at the University of Colorado in Boulder. After receiving a business degree in Finance, Reid spent 10 years in New York City working in the finance industry trading energy commodities.

Yearning for a less crowded pace of life, Reid and his wife, Meredith, moved back to Montrose in 2016. They have two 2 children, Reagan and Thatcher. They enjoy skiing, Crossfit, and working on the farm when kids’ activities do not intervene.

Ryan Gilbert

Ryan Gilbert began his banking career in 2008. He is the Market President overseeing the Bank of Colorado Montrose South, North and Olathe branches. He brings years of lending and executive management experience to the bank and is responsible for the overall management of operations, commercial and residential lending.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications Studies, with a minor in Economics from the University of Northern Colorado. He is married to Kristi Gilbert and they have two children, Lila and Jaxon. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, trail running, mountain biking and hunting.

Alfred Gilchrist

Alfred Gilchrist was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2020. He is an accomplished, recently retired senior executive with extensive experience in leadership positions and demonstrated achievements in health care advocacy organizations. Alfred graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Business Administration and Texas State University with a Masters of Health Care Professions.

Prior to moving to Montrose in 2020, Alfred lived for 15 years in Denver where he served as CEO at the Colorado Medical Society. He served as legislative director at the Texas Medical Association in Austin, Texas for 16 years prior to moving to Denver. In his spare time, Alfred enjoys family and friends, reading, skiing, golf and travel.

Dr. Joel Lee

Dr. Joel Lee

Dr. Joel Lee is a professor emeritus of healthcare administration. He was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2021.  He completed his Master of Public Health and Doctor of Public Health degrees in Health Services Administration and Organization at the University of Texas School of Public Health.

Dr. Lee has served on a number of association boards and advisory committees affiliated with the American College of Healthcare Executives, National Board of Public Health Examiners, Association of University Programs in Health Administration, and American Public Health Association. He was also appointed to the Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Performance Excellence Award.

He has participated in international health administration / public health activities in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East.  He lives in Telluride and is involved in local community activities.

Dr. Mary Vader

Dr. Mary Vader is number seven out of 11 children born and raised on a ranch in Gunnison and was elected to the MRH Board of Directors in 2013.  She studied medicine at North Texas State University and Pediatrics at St Joseph’s Medical Center in Phoenix. The western slope called her back and she joined Pediatric Associates in 1990. She specializes in child abuse and neglect and provides forensic exams and consultation for the 7th Judicial District. A passion has been to take vacation time to participate in medical missions all over the world which she has done for 26 years. Mary is active in local community service and started a foundation called the Helping Hand Fund, part of the Montrose Community Foundation.

MRHI Board Class

The MRHI Board class exists to develop prospective Board members with a high understanding of their individual fiduciary duties and the fundamental role of the BOD that contributes to steering MRHI towards a sustainable future through sound, ethical, and legal governance and financial management policies.
