New vestibular equipment helps patients overcome dizziness and reduce fall risk

MONTROSE, Colo. (June 18, 2025) – Mountain View Therapy at Montrose Regional Health (MRH) now offers a state-of-the-art virtual reality system from Bertec to help patients recovering from balance and dizziness issues. The Bertec Head Mounted Display is designed to support safe, guided vestibular therapy and improve outcomes for those with complex balance disorders.

The system creates fully interactive virtual environments that simulate real-world situations. Patients wear a headset and use handheld controllers while standing on a balance plate and secured in a safety harness. A vestibular therapist customizes each session and monitors the patient’s performance in real time, gradually increasing difficulty as treatment progresses.

“Our vestibular physical therapists have over forty years of combined treatment experience with patients who suffer from vertigo, dizziness, and imbalance,” said Beth Gibson, physical therapist for Mountain View Therapy. “Now our new cutting-edge vestibular equipment allows for more detailed assessment and sophisticated treatment of balance disorders. This combination raises the level of excellence of vestibular therapeutic intervention we provide for our communities and the Western Slope.”

MRH is currently the only healthcare provider in the area offering this level of virtual reality vestibular therapy. For older adults especially, successful treatment can improve stability, boost confidence, and significantly reduce the risk of serious falls.

The addition of this advanced system reflects MRH’s ongoing commitment to bringing the latest healthcare innovations to the Western Slope, helping patients receive expert care close to home.
