National program celebrates compassionate, exceptional nursing care
MONTROSE, Colo. (February 2, 2026) – Montrose Regional Health (MRH) recently honored two nurses with the DAISY Award, a national recognition that celebrates extraordinary nursing care. Between September and December, MRH received more than 35 DAISY nominations from patients, family members, and caregivers recognizing nurses who made a meaningful difference in their care.
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international recognition program established by the DAISY Foundation™ to honor nurses for the compassionate, skillful care they provide to patients and families. Nominations may be submitted by patients, family members, co-workers, or community members.
Any licensed registered nurse, nursing faculty member, or nursing student at MRH is eligible for nomination. All submissions are reviewed anonymously by a hospital committee and evaluated using criteria focused on compassion, professionalism, and alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
“As a nurse and the leader of the DAISY Committee at Montrose Regional Health, I see firsthand how powerful recognition can be,” said Sherry Meaker, RN, BSN, staff educator at MRH. “The DAISY Award gives our nurses a meaningful way to be seen for the compassion, skill, and dedication they bring to every patient, every day.”
The most recent MRH DAISY Award recipients are Alyssa Moon, RN, of the Medical-Surgical Unit and Rheann Smedly, RN, BSN, of the Emergency Department. Both nurses were recognized for their commitment to exceptional patient care and for consistently treating patients and families with kindness, respect, and empathy.
Community members who would like to recognize a nurse who made a difference in their care are encouraged to submit a nomination. To learn more about the DAISY Award or submit a nomination, visit montrosehealth.com/daisyawards.
