The Emergency Department at Montrose Regional Health is a Level III Trauma Center staffed 24 hours per day by Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians and RNs who are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and in Trauma Care. In 2023, our Emergency staff treated 21,500 patients.
In addition to high quality emergency care, the MRH Emergency Department offers:
Our Emergency Department physicians at MRH serve our communities in various ways such as leading as medical directors for local EMS agencies, Black Canyon National Park, WRETAC (Western Regional Emergency Medical and Trauma Services Advisory Committee), and more.
MRH is the only Level III Trauma Center in the Montrose region. Level III Trauma Centers are more readily equipped with emergency physicians and are able to conduct a wider range of treatments than level IV and V centers before it is necessary to transport patients to higher level facilities. Level III Centers must meet particular criteria, such as having Board Certified Emergency physicians in the Emergency Department at all times, a general surgeon available within 20 minutes of a trauma notification, and more. Our Level III quality assurance program is very extensive and a trauma committee oversees the care of every trauma patient that comes to our hospital. As a Level III, we are also required to participate in injury prevention activities and community education to reduce the incidence of injuries.
