SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Evaluations

At Montrose Regional Health, it is our hope that support and resources are available for all survivors of sexual assault. We work to support survivors in our communities through Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) evaluations – available 24/7.

A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is a registered nurse who completed additional education and training to provide comprehensive health care to survivors of sexual assault. In offering comprehensive care, the role of a SANE nurse includes evaluating and treating patients, being mindful of both the acute and long-term consequences of sexual violence victimization.

Your Reporting Options:

  • Trust Yourself: Trust your instincts to seek support.

  • Consider Medical Attention: Whether you are ill, physically injured, or physically feel ok, consider getting medical attention. Medical care can include preventative treatment for sexually transmitted infections and address pregnancy concerns.

  • Know Your Reporting Options: If you are an adult, you have the right to make your own decision about participation in a law enforcement investigation. You can seek medical care and still decide to work with law enforcement at a later time.

  • Seek Support: Finding a counselor and an advocate who specializes in sexual violence can help with healing. Many survivors benefit from talking with a trained professional and/or at support groups.
